He has been teaching at the University of Westminster since 2007, where he is Professor of Architectural Humanities and REF Lead for Architecture, Built Environment, and Planning. Educated at Politecnico di Torino and University College London (UCL)—where he completed his Master’s and PhD—he has also taught at The Bartlett (UCL), Brighton, Canterbury, and METU in Ankara, as well as serving as a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Venice (Iuav) and Cagliari. His research explores the intersection between spatial and visual cultures, with a focus on: Photography and visual media: urban representation, aerial photography, and architectural models (curator of exhibitions at the CCA in Montreal and co-editor of Picturing Cities, 2024); Spatial experience and perception: bodily and emotional perception of architecture, a central theme of the Vertigo in the City project and the monograph On Balance: Architecture and Vertigo (2023); Travel and modernity: cross-cultural dynamics in 20th-century architectural history and theory. His projects have received funding from major institutions such as the British Academy, the AHRC, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, and the Wellcome Trust. He maintains an active role in postgraduate teaching and PhD supervision.
